CwGet – Software to Decode Morse Code
Review by on
I know it sounds hard to believe, but a long time ago people used to communicate via long distances by using a type of character encoding that transmits telegraphic information using rhythm – Morse code. Some people still communicate via Morse code – and here is where the DXsoft-developed application CwGet comes in.

What this application does is decode Morse code. The application “listens” to the Morse code transmission via your machine’s sound card. It then interprets the message and presents you with text – the text of the message sent via Morse code.

To start enjoying this functionality you need three things:
- A receiver to get Morse code messages
- A computer with a soundcard (all computers have sound cards)
- The CWGet software application

Getting the CWGet application off the web and onto your computer should not take long, not when the download weighs in at less than 1MB. Once the download completes, you need to install the application before you can start using. You will be glad to know that the installation process goes smoothly and rapidly. You’ll also be glad to know that CWGet works with just about any version of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system. This includes the old but popular Windows XP, the much avoided Windows Vista, and the latest iteration, Windows 7.

Once CWGet is up and running, you can use the application free of charge for as long as you want. Please note that CWGet is not freeware – the demo version is just not time limited. It is limited in other ways. The Save Setup, Save Buffer and Open Buffer in Notepad commands are not available on the demo version.

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Works with all Windows versions
  • Decodes Morse code transmissions and presents them as text
  • It can work as narrow-band sound DSP-filter
  • Demo version is not time limited

Cons
  • Demo version is limited: the Save Setup, Save Buffer and Open Buffer in Notepad commands are not available
